THE FINAL PROJECT... (duh duh duuuuh)

Artist Statement:
The idea of my Photograph is to explore the connection between footwear and the person wearing them. My theory is that you can tell a lot about someone just by what is on there feet. However don't take my word for it. See for yourself. Look at the pictures below and see if you can match the shoes to the person that they belong too.

Elise Mahoney BIO AND INTERVIEW

MY FIRST PERSON RESPONDED YOU SAID I ONLY HAD TO DO ONE BIO.

Bio:
Elise Mahoney - Local Photographer
http://www.ehmahoney.com/
Elise Mahoney is an outstanding local photographer who has showcased at Oswald, LuLu Carpenter's, Vine Hill winery and many others. She enjoys capturing everyday objects with strong geometric shapes and patterns. She is also drawn to vibrant natural colors. Elise never alters her photo's and is against staging her photos. She likes the raw art of nature. Lacking a darkroom Mahoney will use her computer and sometimes will add a digital wash to photos to enrich the emotion and impact the image. Personally her form of photography is appealing to me.

Interview:
What is your Favorite Part of being a photographer in Santa Cruz?
The greatest part about Santa Cruz is the natural beauty that comes free. For most places you have to set up back rounds, or construct natural beauty. Santa Cruz supplies that for me.

What is your favorite thing to photograph?
Once again i enjoy photographing the natural beauty that Santa Cruz has to offer. when i mean Beauty i mean the people. (laugh) I enjoy doing portraits of the funky people downtown that Santa Cruz supplies.

What does your job consist of day to day?
Well luckily my husband has a high paying job, therefore i do not have the stress and pressure to pay rent like most photographers do. For me it is more like a hobby that makes me a good chunk of money. I am so very fortunate to have my husband around. (Husband in room.)

Does your family ever take part in your photography?
My husband is rarely involved in my photos, however he supports me in everything I do and often critics my finished work. My son is very on top of it. He enjoys taking photo's with me everyday and i enjoy taking photo's with him.

What is your favorite part about taking a picture?
The scouting. I love just traveling around the bay area searching for interesting things to shoot. i never go out with a specific agenda in mind. I prefer to simply let the photo come to me and i intend to capture it in time.

What kind of equipment do you use daily?
Often I just use my cannon, occasionally I will bring my tri-pod, but that never happens. i prefer the simplicity of photography and I like to let my imagination take over the photo, I do not let the equipment define my shots.

Critiques

Critique 4-17-13

This photo brings a sense of joy. It's like that first cup of coffee in the morning; a refreshing pick me up. Now the true joy of this photo lies within the symbolism. It symbolizes the natural beauty this world had to offer, beauty that we often ignore. Every man, women and child deserves this happiness, this joy, regardless of there economic back round. The technical aspect of this photo brings a brilliance and unseen talent that most photographers lack. This slight blur in the back round brings focus to the articulate mixture of colors that the flower empowers. From an artistic stand point, Erika lacks the rule of thirds. However this does not take away from the overall brilliance that this photo displays. The strong emphasis on the flower adds to the depth of the photo, while the blur adds a field of depth that leaves you begging for more. The colors are strong and vibrant and my eye was drawn to the beauty of nature. The only down fall to this photo is the lack of thirds. The flower seems to have been thrown into the photo, with no regard for placement. If the photographer were to just crop the excess vegetation on the right of the photo you would be left with a flawless and utterly perfect example of artistic brilliance that the 21st century lacks.

Daily Quiz

Daily Quiz 4-30-13: According to science the left side is the best side of your face in portraits.

Daily Quiz 4-12-13: Elements of art are the building blocks or units, while the principles govern the relationship between the elements.

Daily Quiz 3-27-13: 1.) Chroma Key 2.) No the screen does not have to be green, however that color is preferable because no one wears neon green so when you photo shop out the green it is incredibly easy. Any color would work, as long as no one in the frame is wearing the color as the screen.

Daily Quiz 3-26-13: Shade is when you add black, Tint is when you add white, while Tone is while you add grey.

Daily Quiz 3-14-13: To achieve a shallow depth of field you have to set your camera to a high Aperture setting.

Daily Quiz 3-1-13: Adjusting the aperture allows you to change the depth of field. It affects whether it will focus on something in the background or foreground.

Shutter Speed: Effects the amount of light that is let into a Camera and a fast shutter speed allows you to capture an image in time such as a dog running. A slow shutter speed will let in more light and will also make the picture a tad blurry but focus in on a certain point. It can entirely change a photograph.

Rule of Thirds: Is when you put the subject of your photo in a third of the picture. Using this technic makes pictures more appealing to the human eye.

Faces in Many Places Project

This project was challenging, however rewarding and fun. You had to find human faces in non-human objects. I never expected this project to be so hard, as I said I still had a lot of fun! The details were to take ten pictures of faces in Nature and put them into a collage, which I have done.
Complementary Color Project

1.) Red, Green and Blue
2.) When your mix primary colors. For example Red and Blue make Violet.
3.) Tertiary colors are created when Secondary colors are mixed, for example when you mix orange and green you get greenish orange.
4.)A subtractive color model explains the mixing of a limited set of dyes or inks to make natural colorants to create a wider range of colors. An additive color model involves light emitted directly from a source or illuminant of some sort.
5.)Food is a good example of how color affects our perception. If a steak is blue then you probably won't want to eat it. you would probably pick the nice red juicy one over the weird blue one.
6.)Color affects another color by adding tone, hue and saturation to a picture.
7.)
8.)
9.)

Aperture - Shutter Speed - ISO
Project

Aperture: Affects the depth of field of a photo. Essentially it allows you to focus on the foreground of a photo while the background is blurry. It will also allow you to focus on the background while the foreground is blurred.

Shutter Speed: Affects how long the lens will stay open and how much light exposure you will allow into the camera. If you have a high shutter speed it will allow you to capture a moment in time, as I have done with Bella playing volleyball. If you have a low shutter speed it will add motion blur to your photo, such as the ball Bella is spiking.

100

400

1600

6400
ISO: Unlike shutter speed ISO allows you to dictate how much light is let into the camera in a fraction of a second. You do not have to leave the lens open for 30 seconds to allow light in. A high ISO allows you to let the most amount of light in a fraction of a second. To cancel out light and let light in, the lens of the camera will dilate like the eye of a human.
